Strategic Priorities Fund

The following applications for funding have been submitted to the Strategic Priorities Fund:

Inter-Faculty submission for a UBC-Wide Campus Agreement

Over the last year UBC IT has engaged in significant community consultation.  The Faculty of Dentistry, Education, Forestry, and the UBC Library are co-applicants on this application.  In addition to the applicants, this proposal has the support of the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

UBC IT has developed a business case which indicates that UBC can save a minimum of $800,000 annually on its licensing costs for Microsoft products by moving from the current purchasing model to a campus-wide leasing model for core desktop software. A UBC-wide agreement will result in volume discounts that can benefit all units.  UBC currently spends an estimated $1.7 million annually to purchase core desktop software products from Microsoft. Although some campus units have acquired department-based licensing agreements, the majority of products are purchased in small volumes, receiving minimal benefit from UBC’s aggregate purchasing power. A UBC-wide campus agreement will benefit all Faculties and departments at UBC.
